A Perfect Start for the Defending Champions

For the season’s opener in the west, Kobe Bryant welcomed new teammate Steve Blake with a two-word order: Be Ready. And boy was Blake ready to show Bryant he can be an asset to his new team, which he did with the 3-pointer with less than 19 seconds to go and gave Lakers the lead.
It has been said that Kobe’s competitiveness can swallow opponents and teammates alike with a stubbornness that’s equally matched. But, I think he is starting to realize that he can’t win the championship alone, especially as he is getting older. The will to win might be great but it’s becoming obvious that his body is starting to have a mind of his own. And when he rifled a pass to Blake, everybody knew it was not an ordinary assist. For one, it is known that there are Lakers who have worn their teamwear for the entire season without winning Kobe’s trust. So, Blake knew that pass was special; it was a big moment for him because it was a sign that Kobe trusted him despite his being new. And Blake certainly acknowledged that trust and made sure it was not unwarranted. It may have been just one shot, but it definitely showed Kobe is willing to let go and assist, and whatever else is needed for the team. And this win certainly showed Kobe that his new teammate Blake along with a determined Shannon Brown are assets to the team.
The crucial moment when Kobe passed the ball to Blake who was positioned perfectly for a 3-point was a turning point in their team. Bryant now knows that if he passes a ball then Blake will do well and make a shot as seen with Blake’s consecutive 3-pointers at the 3rd quarter. The highest accolade that Kobe made about Blake is when he said: “He’s not scared of anything. He likes those moments.”
This has been a perfect start for the Los Angeles Lakers winning 2 points over Rockets with 112-110. Here’s hoping the winning streak continues. Can we expect Kobe’s 6th championship?
I guess we can if Blake and Brown continue with the way they play. Phil Jackson unquestionably thinks that the 2 boys changed the complexion of the ballgame. He even stated that:
"We just didn't seem to find traction until Shannon and Steve got in the ballgame and changed the complexion of that ballgame. A great effort by those two. They gave us a big rally."

Celtics vs Heat , season opener

Quite a season opener with Celtics and Heat on the arena tonight. Who will persevere in the first game?

Unfortunately for Miami Heat fans who were expecting the Miami Heat's 3 big players to wing it to championship, it didn't push through. But Boston's Big 3 certainly did good to win 88-80 over Miami in the NBA season's opening game.

Though Celtic's captain Paul Pierce had a sore back due to a fall in the third quarter, he was still the most effective defender on LeBron James with 14 of james' 21 field goal attempts. He also limited James' shooting to under 43% overall. He was also able to assist Ray Allen's 3-pointer which essentially clinched the game for the Celtics.

As Paul Pierce tweeted 3 hours ago: One down 81 to go good start C's which sums up what the Celtics really feel.

London 2010 Olympic budget untouched

The British government did not touch the 2012 Olympics budget even if they have been making large cuts to reduce their country's deficit. The Olympic budget remains at $14.7 billion to ensure its success. They know that a lot of things, including the success and how it will affect tourism, is riding on the success of the Londom 2012 Olympics. And thus, continued support of sports and the athletes through 2010 is a priority.

On the other hand, organizers have scrapped some of their plans including the wrap around the stadium that was designed to shelter the spectators and the canvas for the images and that would save them $11 million. The UK Sports will get a 28% cut but has said it will maintain its funding to the Olympics athletes until after the London Games. UK is one in making sure that they will deliver a safe and sucessful Olympics in 2012 when all eyes of the world will be on them.

The Most Valuable NFL Teams

The recession has not spared anyone and that includes the National Football League. According to Forbes, it is the first downturn of NFL since they started tracking the enterprise value of each team in NFL in 1998. There has been a decline of 2% or an average of $1.02 billion last season where almost 21 of the 32 teams saw their enterprise values decrease. Forbes clarified that their appraisal of the worth of the team are enterprise values which is an economic measure that reflects the market value of the team. In this case it also includes the revenue from the stadium but not the real estate value. The decline of the team value lies mostly on the fact that there are fewer people with the ability to buy a team because of the economy and there was a decrease in the non-broadcasting revenue for many teams.

Still, there are those teams which increased value despite the recession such as Dallas Cowboys which has a 9% increase in value. Only the soccer club Manchester United tops them with $1.84 billion. Dallas Cowboys recently moved to their $1.25 billion stadium and proved their worth when they sold out every game for the regular season even at the highest average ticket price of $160. The stadium is also used for various events such as boxing, the latest being the fight between Pacquiao/Clottey and concerts and thus increased its net income, aside from what it makes on the Dallas Cowboys, which is what owner Jerry Jones aim to do.
